What we Believe

We are an Evangelical Church that endeavours to fulfil Christ’s Commission to teach the Word of God and make disciples of all. The following is an attempt to summarise the main Bible doctrines and beliefs to which we adhere:

The Bible
The inspiration and total inerrancy of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament as originally given by God; their sole-sufficiency and final authority in all matters of faith and practice. ( 2 Timothy 3: 15-17 )

God
One God in three persons; the unity of the Godhead in the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, co-equal, co-eternal, sovereign and active in creation, providence and redemption. ( Matthew 28: 19, Ephesians 1:3-14, Genesis 1: 1 )

The Lord Jesus Christ
The essential deity and perfect humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and men; His virgin birth, sinless life and sacrificial death on the Cross as the only substitute for sinners; His burial, bodily resurrection and ascension to heaven; His present high priestly ministry and personal return. ( John 1: 1-3, 14, 2 Timothy 2: 5, Matthew 1: 23, 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4, Romans 4: 24-25, Acts 1: 9-11, Philippians 2: 9-11, Hebrews 7: 24-27, 1 Thessalonians 1: 10, 4: 16-17, 2 Thessalonians 1: 6-10 )

The Holy Spirit
The work of the Holy Spirit in regenerating the sinner and indwelling, sanctifying and empowering the believer. ( Titus 3: 4-7, 2 Thessalonians 2: 15, Romans 8; 9, Acts 1: 4-8 )

Man
The creation of man(kind) in the image of God; the entrance of sin through Adam’s disobedience; the fallen and total depraved state of all men; their subjection to God’s wrath and condemnation; their responsibility to repent and believe the Gospel. ( Genesis 1:27, 3: 6, Romans 5: 12, 3: 10, 23, Luke 24: 46-47, Acts 17: 30, 16: 31 )

Salvation
The justification of the sinner by God’s grace through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ and the eternal security of the believer. ( Romans 3: 22-26, 5: 1, Ephesians 2: 8-9 )

The Future State
The unconditional immortality of the soul; the resurrection of the body; the eternal joy in heaven of the believer; the conscious eternal punishment in hell of those who die impenitent.
( Luke 23: 43, 2 Corinthians 5: 8, John 5: 28, Matthew 25: 46, I Corinthians 15: 51-52, Revelation 20: 11-15 )

Christian Behaviour
The responsibility of all believers to obey and serve the Lord and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives.
( Romans 12: 1-2 )

Church Practice

The Bible teaches that every true believer should be baptised and commit to fellowship and serve within a local church which is God’s unique provision for His people. ( Acts 2: 42, Hebrews 10; 25 )

In accordance with the New Testament teaching the following ordinances are taught and observed:

The Baptism of believers by total immersion upon profession of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and whose lives show evidence of their Christian profession. This is a symbol of their identification with Him in His death, burial and resurrection. ( Matthew 28: 18-20, Romans 6: 3-4 )

The Celebration of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week in remembrance of Him until He comes again. ( Luke 22: 19-20, Acts 20: 7, 1 Corinthians 11; 23-26 )
